The Enlightenment was a time when humanity started applying science to back beliefs, and using more logic and reasoning. Although it may be a new and twisted way, we've learned how to reach the "light" and our goals- whether it be ignoring ethical and environmentally harmful drilling for oil, or cutting down rainforests and endangering species, capitalism and the need for success seems to be the only thing that drives many of us.
